Ian Martin graduated from Dundee University in 1972 with Honors in Microbiology and Biochemistry. He taught Biology and Chemistry for eighteen years before making a hobby into a job. He spent the next eight years growing and selling alpine plants and hardy orchids. He reverted back to the lab again and became a cancer screener for the Scottish Colorectal Cancer Screening Pilot. The offer of more money and lots of holiday time lured him into lecturing at Dundee college where he remains after six years. He lectures the more advanced Chemistry courses, but for the last year about one third of his time is authoring material for the CeLLS project. CeLLS is aiming to make the core of the first two years of undergraduate science available as online material.
