AlphaLISA®: A simple, homogeneous immunoassay platform for bioprocess analytics

Accelerate development of biotherapeutic drugs

Author: Francesco Lipari
Company: PerkinElmer
Issue: 22.1

Biotherapeutic drugs are becoming increasingly important in the repertoire of therapies available to treat debilitating diseases such as cancer and autoimmune disorders. This family of drugs is protein-based and is administered via injection. One example is Herceptin® (trastuzumab), an antibody that is used to treat breast cancer. The drugs must be safe and therefore free of contaminants; and as such, robust analytical approaches must be adopted to ensure that contaminants are removed during development of the purification process. Contaminants are commonly detected using antibody-based assays due to their high sensitivity.

Alpha Technology Principle

AlphaLISA® technology provides a methodology for antibody-based detection of contaminants in a much more efficient manner than classical approaches. This technology will therefore allow for quicker time to results and more analyses per day. Overall, AlphaLISA technology allows for accelerated development of biotherapeutic drugs.
